If I were you nov I'd re-assign the DNS to someone else cos it looks like they turned the DNS off rather than the server as such.

The domains are with another mob, we made it seperate to the hosting.

looks like the issue was bigger than inno given mikes post here and it could be related.

OK so the domains separate...then why did the DNS not resolve? :p
Thats why I couldn't load the site as far as I could tell. I even added the sanctumhost dns as an extra dns and still couldn't resolve the site.

this is interesting but probably not related.
Two of the leading counter-extremism blogs in the United Kingdom have been taken offline for an entire week by a large-scale cyber attack.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, but by the very nature of their targeting, the sources are thought to be radical Islamist elements or their sympathisers.

Both Harry's Place and Student Rights suffered "massive" denial of service (DDOS) attacks over the past week - a cyber attack which blasts servers with traffic in order to overload them and effectively knock the websites out. The same tactics have been used against governments and businesses over the past few years, with culprits ranging from the Chinese government to the 'Anonymous' hacker group and its proxies.

A statement posted on the Harry's Place website said:

"We were taken down by another very nasty DDOS attack. The ferocity of this one was actually quite staggering, so clearly we’re doing something that is getting under someone’s skin, someone with a very a fair amount of resources behind them. That a humble blog like ours – written by a few amateur pundits in their spare time, and relying entirely on donations from readers for its expenses – seems to threaten forces with this sort of virtual fire-power at their disposal is as flattering as it is baffling."

If anything has been dossed it was the DNS server from what I could see.
It didn't return an address for this site.

I can now for example resolve sanctumzone.co.uk to an IP, we all can ofc cos we can see the site.
However during the period the site was off, it didn't resolve to an IP, ergo the DNS was gone not the site.

Andy, i got onto inno's chat support, they told me that their datacenter was forcing a 24 hr disconnect because it was being repeatedly attacked.

Im thinking both were under attack.

K so are we pointing the DNS at inno's DNS servers?
eg is sanctumhost with inno and the domain regged with someone else but redirected to inno's DNS?
If so then its prolly worth changing back to being with the original domain registrars and then pointing at the site and leaving it at that.

Yep, sorry i should have clarifed already, the hosting is with inno, all the domains including sanctumhost are with someone else entirely, they are seperate.

Frog set that up and told me his idea was to keep them seperate incase of a problem with the host, he didnt want the domains tied to the host incase we needed to move quickly for some unforseen reason and/or bad hosting, which makes sense i guess.

Well the domain names are with freeparking, and then pointing to the site, no one has changed that from the get go when we set it up so im not sure what you mean by changing back, unless you mean having the domains with inno.

I dont mind the idea of them being seperate tbh.

It does sound like a good idea, thing is the DNS server during this period did NOT resolve to the site so did we have a ddos on the DNS server on a separate site?
Thats spooky.

It wasn't world wide, plenty of sites have been working just fine for me all day, including the ones I run.
That said they are DDOS protected and cost a bit but I've had no issues.
Its also been building for at least a week and is a fairly commonplace thing believe it or not.
Getting hosting like that costs though. I know a guy who can prolly do us some hosting at a fair price thats solid btw.
