other peoples expectations are what stress me the most - I am a perfectionist and a worrier and lack self esteem which mixed together means I am stressed most of the time.

I never worry about money - not because I have lots or access to lots - I guess it stems from having literally had nothing and surviving - I know if it came to it I could survive again - I think if I had children I would feel differently about money as I would not just have to be responsible for myself.

Getting Fiat Seicentos through MOTs stresses me out :(
I like the MOT bit, it's good to know a car is safe to drive  It's the fekking Seicento that stresses me out. Did all the brakes which due to corroded nipples and unions was a complete arse, now the bloody thing has failed on emissions cos the cat is duff. On a Seicento of that age the cat is built into the exhaust manifold so now I have to take that bugger off too. Still at least it's on the front of the engine on a Seicento and well away from the inlet manifold. Unlike on a good old Mk2 GTI where removing the exhaust manifold with the engine in the car is harder than than Abs cock when he sees Geoffrey from Rainbow.

I agree with you 100% cantata. My fella thinks I'm materialistic, but I think money can make you happy and less stressed. You can buy nice food, not have to worry about scrimping for bills, running the car, saving for stuff your kids need, school trips etc. You can also have a lovely house that is your relaxing haven and go to interesting places where you can meet interesting people etc.

The problem with this is it doesn't/couldn/t apply to all, such is the nature of capitalism.

And yes frog, I suppose if I grow excess veg, give them to you, you at some point give me some of your excess....flies?....what does a frog harvest?.....anyway, I take your point.

I think everyone could have a decent standard of living if there wasn't a group of greedy elitists hoarding all the wealth.

I think maybe the birth experience is pretty freaky! Most bubs are born in bright lights in the theatre, never said anything about fear of the dark, froggy dearest ... also maybe they have past life experience and they get born and think "waaa, not again!! now i have to go back to not remembering , maybe that is why babies scream all the time"

The type of stress you describe is a very debilitating one,the worry over peoples expectations of you forget and ignore and work to make yourself happy for you, not for some invisible chain of control someone has over you in what they expect ,

I'm with you on this. I'm trying to let go of what other people expect and to do what I want. Obviously I have to and want to consider the feelings of others, but I've put other people before me for a long time.

OMG, dubs: the bane of my life is a Fiat Stilo!!!! I hate and detest it. Plus, they apparently only made a few Stilos (I wonder why???) so if I want a garage to fix the huge noisy hole in the exhaust (that came from nowhere one day, without warning) it's going to cost me £365 - without labour.

For anyone going to buy themselves a car I say AVOID ANYTHING FIAT, ESPECIALLY THE STILO.

Yep, Lesley. "Just enough" money is, meh! "A bit extra" is nice. "Plenty" is wonderful, really liberating. But the real "Privilege" of money is having so much you can start to give it away to where it's needed.

I openly admit that I am "materialistic" in that I would love to have millions and billions of pounds. :D But I wouldn't keep it. I very quickly get to the end of spending on myself. Yes, I would have the lovely house, with pool, equestrian facilities and land :emb: ; but I don't want a room full of designer clothes and shoes, or piles of jewels, or twenty sports cars, or a private plane, or houses and apartments all over the world. :conf:

I'd set myself and my child up for life; then start setting up my sisters and parents; then wider family; then child carers groups (very close to my heart); then child abuse groups... ad infinitum.

And I openly admit too that any and every "spiritual path or method" I've ever looked into (and there have been MANY, left and right hand) has been to see what it could give/bring me. :D I don't want to be an Ascended Master, Saint, Angel or to Shine In The Dark. I'm much simpler and easier to please than that! :D

So far, none of the methods tried have "worked". :D Especially not LOA :D And I can't bear any teachings that blame the victim for their predicament or illness. Or any system that teaches "suffering" is good to any degree.

I don't even think it is materialistic to want a life for you and yourfamily that is fantastic and free from money worries. Since when did being a good person mean that you have to be deprived of these things? I know that I'm a very grumpy lady when I'm skint, not very spiritual at all!

As soon as I start saving money I always need to spend it on something. A big issue for me is the fact that my parents live in France. Going to visit them is expensive, or it is for me! They want me to put my son on a plane next Easter so that he can visit on his own for the first time. It's not just the plane fair, but the petrol getting to the airport, other incidentals. It all adds up, and I also know that he is going to have another school trip not long after, this time to Spain. Then they'll want me to visit too! I'm already wondering how I can increase my income and earn more :conf:

If you're going to use a garage for such a job, you REALLY need to find a different one!!! That is an extortionate price. A quick look on ebay shows up a cat back system for a stilo at 80 odd quid.......Ok if you need a cat too thats gonna hurt but if it's just a holed section on the exhaust £365 is like wow!

The shittiest kind... I get VERY stressed when I can't meet my own demands about myself. Mainly on music stuff, well, on other things too. I'm too lazy, bad with money etc. I'm a perfectionist about few things, I take stuff too seriously, specially about music. My own playing, all around me I see crazy talent, skillful musicians, kids who are way further than me despite my experience. All that drives me insane, I must perform better, I must do stuff better, I must conquer myself, and it's hard as hell. And yes, I'm bit drunk now.

Masakatsu agatsu. ;) And that makes life shit!

I can't remember the last time I actually went shopping for 'pleasure', for example, save for a few charity shops and car boots here and there. Otherwise, I'm just getting by and keeping a roof over my head.

I'm kind of stuck in a bit of a loop, like millions of others I suppose. I will say it is much worse actually realising that is the case, whereas before I was just running myself ragged trying to pay everyone. I don't do that so much any more, but the realisation that this is basically all I've been doing my whole life coupled with the thought that I may never figure out how to free myself of it without being physically dead, does get me down.

I feel a bit shit when I can't afford to eat and stuff, too. :suicide:

Thankfully, I've nobodies arse to keep but my own!

Man, I feel ya! It's like I'm just working to work. The more I try to "catch up", the more I fall behind. It sucks. :aargh:

I did, Our Kid. I called around everywhere from the Fiat dealer to Kwikfit to the local hairy bloke/s in the back streets... one of whom was the £365 quote (minimum... what the "labour" would have added is your guess and mine). :conf:

I wanted to do it with a tin can (dog food!) and some jubilee clips, but I can't find a way to get the thing safely high enough off the ground.

Suggestions are welcome.
