Does anyone want to join me on a health kick and/or swap health, fitness and nutrition tips?

I've stopped smoking now, but exercise and diet need to be addressed! Getting all buff would be nice, but I'll settle for eating well, getting plenty of exercise and improving my mood. :)

So far, eating plenty of veg and cutting out sugar, refined carbs and processed junk food seems like a good way to go. As for exercise, it would be nice to do as much as possible, but sensibly! It's all very well to sit here and type this, but there's also the question of motivation and sticking to it...

I don't have much clutter I'm the opposite of a hoarder, dust on your bedding is horrible and those things people have around their homes as decorations are nothing but dust catchers

More excercise, more sun, more walking in bare-feet, more woods, more sea, more real air.

Detox, eat healthier, cut out the crap(as Leslie said), de-clutter, and don't hang on to the past........but what will I do with my jukebox??

Rick, I kind of feel as though I'm fighting a losing battle in my house. We got a fixer upper (money pit) and we are still fixing it up! There's always some sort of work going on, so it's always in a state of disarray. It's an old stone place and old houses seem to be dustier anyway.

Are you going on an adventure or something Jhado? You go on a jolly to the Forest of Dean! It will be beautiful soon with all the leaves and flowers out. :)
You sound like a cracking cook, so you shouldn't have any worries making decent, tasty food. What kinds of healthy things are you thinking of making? Gardening is a nice thing to do outdoors and you can do it in bare feet! Are you into gardening and growing edible stuff? You have a jukebox? Cool.

I'm trying to eat well, as in the sort of things that Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall would make in River Cottaging, rather than trying to subsist on raw vegetables or some shit like that. The good thing about here is that nobody is going to try and turn me vegan or tell me to eat raw meat. Letting go of the past and mental decluttering is going to be the hardest part. A healthy mind in a health body isn't it? Let's hope so!

I'm way too ill-disciplined to do a proper detox, but need to trim down a bit, as I've got podgy in the last year.

I just wanted to mention that I was looking at the various stevia products for the first time last week, in Asda. I was shocked that a small plastic pot of Truvia was well over £4, and all the other brands had things like, "sweetners" listed among the ingredients along side stevia - which makes me suspicious that even those are probably being sold with some aspartamine added.

I'm thinking of taking up alchoholism :D

Cayenne pepper is very nice condiment to carry continuously, to add to your cooking occasionally to the benefit of your Cardiac and Respiratory system :)

If you have a couple of days a week where you eat raw and or organic veg exclusively, and refrain from refined products, you're lessoning the burden on your body/digestive system and doing well.

Anyway alchohol and cigarettes is the way forward, life is overrated imo, I long for sleep and pleasant dreams, even exciting nightmares would be an improvement on this bland liberal utopia.

real stevia has a odd taste, I have wondered if their adding something to make it taste more like sugar

Yes Mike it is, and soon I intend to be indulging in it :)

Leslie, yeah I'm going on a journey of kinds I guess, a whole new start for me. Forest of Dean sounds really good, and yes I know how to cook tasty healthy food, I love growing edible-food, gardening and cooking are two of my biggest loves. Unfortunately none of these joys are the gonna be the same on my own. The juke-box is magic, it plays 45's, and you can see all the mechanism working :)

Sorry if that came across as a bit depressing, it wasn't meant to.

Proper detoxes don't sound very nice Gilly. I used to try to do them, but would end up having a massive chocolate binge after two days. :emb: I'm happy to try and eat well though. For some reason I absolutely love beans and lentils and I'm addicted to raw chillies at the moment :emb: . This all sounds healthy, but I end up having a mad binge on sugary crap once or twice a week. That's the problem! It's a very difficult habit to break.

You can get the dried, green stevia leaves and some people use those in cooking. I haven't tried them though. Do you think they might be be refining the stevia to make it more appealing to people Rick?

I'm off the drink and fags for now Mike. I have a couple of vegan days a week, with just veg and pulses. Variety is a good thing!

It didn't sound depressing at all. They won't be the same on your own. It's going to be different, but you're a lovely bloke and you have other other things coming your way now. :)

I treated myself to some seeds today. Bulb fennel, wild garlic and a funky yellow variety of Alpine strawberry. Fingers crossed! Gardening is a hit and miss affair for me, and last year the slugs were out in force. Hopefully this year will be better.

If you like yogurt, that's a good base for a lot of nice dips, sauces & marinades.

I have one of the EasiYo yogurt makers, but the sachets are expensive. You can use the flask to make it instead by just mixing up a tablespoon or 2 of live, plain yogurt with milk (skimmed for low fat). It works out way cheaper than the sachets, or shop bought, and it has none of the dodgy preservatives, and a lot more of the healthy bacterias because you're eating it fresh before they've had the chance to deteriorate. You can add fruit / honey or whatever, but I like it plain so that it's more versatile. Plus you can leave it in the flask longer if you like it more tangy.

Can give recipes if anyone wants them.

That would be so much healthier than shop bought stuff, with all those healthy un-pasteurised bacterias thingies, sounds yummy.

Recipe for you :) Some of Gilly's yoghourt, fresh mango, loads of coriander, fire it all in a blender, and have it with poppadoms or toasted pittas and chopped up cucumber, scallions, and radish. Goes amazing with a curry.

Yup...I'm doing one. Partly because of my health scare in January which has changed my perspective about a lot of things.
But yes, always eaten healthily, but have gone and cut out things that aren't so healthy if eaten in too much quantity, like meat. So I have lost 5lb in 2 weeks!

Walking in barefeet is great. I do it all the time. It's good to let your feet breathe RA.
