A new kitty takes ages to adjust to a new home - depends on if there are other kitties there too. Cats are terratorial ( see i can also spell bad if i wanna, lol) , they want their own litter tray, food bowl, etc.

Maybe check out a kitty site for hints and tips. Most of all , be patient with Lucifer.. my cat took 2 weeks to almost trust me. It can take ages with a new kitty. Food usually wins them over. Food and let them have hidey-holes... like cardboard boxes to hide in.

lots of luck, you will end up loving Lucifer to bits! :yup:  :meow:

Thanks all .

Cat hates us though, I know it's scared and we are letting it come to us and not pestering her

I'm just a bit worried about her she is so so nervy

Not sure why the wee thing is so petrified but I feel really bad because it is obviously in distress and I don't know how to make her feel better :(

Has it been feral at some point? Or mistreated perhaps?

Best to ignore her. Give her a chance though.... animals aren't just what you want them to be and they can take time to readjust, and learn to trust again especially if they've been abused..

Aaawww, dawny :( Let me plead with you on Lucifer's behalf - please give her more time. She will settle when she realises she's not going to be harmed; then she will build bridges to you.

Please! :cryb:

Some cats are just like that, Dawny, like I was telling you in chat. My friend has a cat who purrs and does everything it can to get your attention. Then, when you go in for a stroke it goes for you, proper. Evil, little, split-personality, bastard.

As with people, some cats are just c*nts, and the sooner you wise up to this fact, that happier both you and Susan will be.

Cats are very solitary creatures. When they show affection, it is the human that sees that as affection - whereas the cat, which is crafty as fook, is using you to place their scents wherever you touch after stroking them, or have them rubbing on you. That makes the cat feel more secure, and that security gives off a little chemical release - a pleasure sense. Hence you can make your cat feel more contented if you rub their cheeks where the scent glands are with a cloth, and then wipe the scent around your gaff. Obviously if the cat won't let you near her, you can help her to spread her scent by using scratching posts as cats have scent glands in their paws.

Yep indeed! Cats like to think that they own you as if they bought you. Cats have slaves. Me and mr CC are slaves to our crazy lil cat, cos we love her to bits. She has everything her own way and will not share, lol.
You have to get into 'cat mode' and see things thru their crazy lil eyes. :meow: :meow: :meow: :D

She'll settle down soon I reckon :)

I'd like to meet her, see if I can work my cat affinity magic :D It doesn't always work though. My sis's cat Dylan still doesn't really come up to me, and he runs away a bit.

There was a stray years ago in my nan's house, he'd come and have some food and lie on the bed upstairs. He walked with his head cocked at a strange angle, he looked like he might have been in an accident or something. We called him psycho because he wasn't much of a people cat to say the least :chuckle: I used to visit him in my nan's room while he lay on the bed and say to him "just one stroke" and I'd give him one stroke on the head with the back of my fingers. He appreciated it. I wouldn't risk more than one stroke though :chuckle:
He was cool, I liked him :) They're all different, all the cats I've met. They all have personalities. I love them :beat:

I don't think a change of name would be a good idea, no.

She just needs time. Sounds like she's had a rough past before by the way she's reacting...She needs time alone to adjust to her new home and owner. Let her roam the house and get free reign...When she's happy enough, you'll notice she'll walk around with her tail up in the air. Get her to trust you - Give her fresh food and water any time the bowls are empty but other than that or talking to her, ignore her. If she shows signs of wanting comfort, don't crowd her - Let her come to you for affection, not the other way around, even if you think she needs comfort. Cats need patient owners and time to adjust to change.

I'm so glad you're not able to give her away, that's not what she needs to go through again. Cats have beautiful souls and although some of them can have very temperamental personalities they are actually very loyal creatures. :meow:

She is winning her way into my heart at the moment

I found out though her previous owners (who I have adopted the cat from so not a resue centre cat) controlled her behaviour by having a water pistol on hand at all times and whenever she did something they did like

Thanks for the update, dawn! So pleased to hear that you & the kitty are getting along better! I've a feeling that everything's going to be a-ok now! :)

A big  to her former owners, though, for their ill-advised approach to feline discipline...

I have cat's multiple cats, most are tame but two are feral but they eat with my other cats, the main thing of trust is to rub your face against their cheek, they know you even if you never give them a name, you can just make a weird noise they know it's your noise.

And the fact cat's are wild and if you don't handle a cat young, it may never come up to a human,so many cat's who seem scardy cat haven't been handled as much as kittens, but if you can each time your around a particular cat that is a little cautious of people rub your cheek against theirs, and make a noise of some sort even a feral cat will recognize the noise and know it's time to eat

cats have 9 lives dawn. 1 they use to animate their meat and the other 8 follow it around in the form of shadows so they are able to possess it if something untoward might happen.
