A mate of my sister's branded herself, because the pone rang while she was ironing, so she lifted the iron to her ear, instead of the telephone receiver.

I used to have to do ironing & stuff from an early age, & felt I should have been out playing instead. It was like a ritual, whereby I'd deliberately cock everything up, in the hope that I wouldn't be asked in future, then my dad would thump me & make me do it all again from scratch.

I only recently stopped ironing son & husband's boxer shorts.

Perhaps it's because I can hear my dad's voice inside my head snarling, "Fricking iron it *thwack* and fricking do it properly".

At the age of - can't remember whether I was 13 or 14 (I know I was under-age) I got a part time job at a garage because I needed cash, and loved the smell of petrol. It's the only job I've ever been sacked from (and I've had 950 jobs )

The garage was owned by 2 brothers and a sister, who were like something out of Deliverence. One day, someone came in asking fr assistance, in some kind of dilemma because their car had conked out and they needed to be somewhere urgently. I directed them to one of the brother owners who was away in the main building, and he came back shortly, nearly in tears because of the way this bloke had dismissed him in his hour of need.

I duely sympathised, and slagged owner off for the git that he was - and it transpired they'd had an intercom system installed, through which they could hear everything that was said.

I had the last laugh though - the fool thought he could bollock me & tell me I was sacked at the end of my shift.

I told him, 'See ya', and he started whinging about my needing to stay, because they were all going to some important do. I had the satisfaction of saying, ' oh - tough luck. Byeee'.

I can't remember why I started telling this story!
