My last one was 4 months with the gall-bladder problem. That would have been (can't be bothered working it out accurately) about 112 days, so would have been 1 x 1 x 112 = score of 112.

If they include that, their magical calculation now will be 2 x 2 x 114 = 456.

If they start any messing, I shall make a point of projectile vomiting at them in the 'return to work interview'.

I was 'interviewed' by a HR person at a previous employer who wanted to discuss a pattern in my sick leave. The pattern was that both days I had called in sick during the previous 6 months had been Thursdays, and was there something I wanted to tell them.

What shows that my illness is genuine, is that the very thought of medicinal whiskey makes me turn green. I've only had a piece of dry toast in the last 2 days & that made me queasy.

Tell the truth - was there something good on TV on Thursdays? I mean, come on 2 Thursdays in 6 months - well it speaks for itself doesn't it, a distinctive 'pattern' like that!

At a place I used to work, people always asked me to accompany them to disciplinary hearings, because they (the 'superiors') were never quite sure whether the accompanying witness was allowed to speak or not, and I always did while they were trying to work it out.

I remember going in with one young girl who they were bullying because she'd been sick with the flu a couple of times. Before they'd decided I could only observe in silence, I'd lambasted them for having her sat under one of those God-awful air conditioning vents all the time, pointed out how the wording of their sickness policy was ambiguous and volunteered to research whether or not that had resulted in employees having been dealt with differently under the same circumstances, and demanded to know what medical training they'd had to qualify their insistence that she imbibe various medications. It's just a game, innit!
