All races and cultures have some aspects of old less tolerant values which they try to pass on, its not unique to white people by any means...look at the indian caste system.

There's a difference between free speech and hate speech. The idea is you think about the way you word it, if you don't mean everyone then say so, be specific and avoid stereotyping and it'll prolly be fine.
The rules on racism are there because of new laws, especially in the UK on it.

Anyway, water under the bridge. I would say that I'm in agreement with andy that authoritarian structures do tend to encourage a belief in their underlings that the group is in some way special. There are obvious motives for this. None of them helpful imo.

Here in the US there is certainly a part of white society that has never stepped foot in a public school or ever walked thru a bad neighborhood. I think it's just that any person who grows up predominantly in any one racial group can be unfamiliar with differences and that makes many people feel outsiders are not as good as them. I personally happen to be around many Mormons (because of a job I moved for) and they seem very segregated with an almost superior attitude (although very nice). I can't say for certain because I am not in their circle. I have known some blacks who felt they were superior to whites. Asian as well. And whites, of course. Everyone has some who will always feel this way.

In the past, I'm sure anyone who owned slaves (all colors have owned slaves of some kind at one point or another) felt they were superior. I think we still have a long way to go, but it's not a "mass consciousness" thing. We aren't born into feeling we're superior. That's taught.
