Working in the public system for the last 4 years i realize these very slight forms of Autism can take turns for the worst when drugs, alcohol, guns ect are involved. I'm certainly not a psychiatrist which makes me reluctant to comment on the help and medications these kids are getting. I'm upset about the school shooting today and i can imagine we will be hearing alot about this topic in the near future.

StarsChildren i'm doing a google search about help in the form of government and psychologists.

CBS Report: Newtown, CT School Shooter Had Aspergers
WASHINGTON (CBS/AP) — He was an honors student who lived in a prosperous neighborhood with his mother, a well-liked woman who enjoyed hosting dice games and decorating the house for the holidays.

Now Adam Lanza is suspected of killing his mother and then gunning down more than two dozen people, 20 of them children, at a Connecticut grade school before taking his own life.

The 20-year-old may have suffered from a personality disorder, law enforcement officials said.

The New York Times reported Saturday morning that several people told the newspaper that Lanza had Asperger’s syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism.

There was a psychiatric professional on Coast to Coast AM last night who was talking about all of the mass shootings going back 10 years and how many of the shooters were under treatment or psychiatric care of some type and I think he was also saying that people are attributing the lack of empathy to conditions such as autism, when in his opinion it was the drugs that were shutting down emotions. I think I remember this right, I was falling asleep. When the show comes up on Youtube today I'll try to post it and tell you which part to listen to if you are interested. I think he also mentioned government care, specifically, as well as manchurian candidate scenarios.

Yes, I posted a huge list some time ago, of so many cases of extreme violence that were linked to the use of Prozac & the like. I do think it's something that should be investigated properly.

Research suggests people with autism do have a higher rate of aggressive behavior — outbursts, shoving or pushing or angry shouting — than the general population, he said.

"But we are not talking about the kind of planned and intentional type of violence we have seen at Newtown," he said in an email.

"These types of tragedies have occurred at the hands of individuals with many different types of personalities and psychological profiles," he added.

Autism is a developmental disorder that can range from mild to severe. Asperger's generally is thought of as a mild form. Both autism and Asperger's can be characterized by poor social skills, repetitive behavior or interests and problems communicating. Unlike classic autism, Asperger's does not typically involve delays in mental development or speech.

Experts say those with autism and related disorders are sometimes diagnosed with other mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder.

"I think it's far more likely that what happened may have more to do with some other kind of mental health condition like depression or anxiety rather than Asperger's," Laugeson said.

Spot on. The drugs are used to curb side-effects and usually result badly. Autistics normally have a very high amount of empathy, especially for animals. Drugs will only confuse them and invoke frustration. The only other shooting case regarding autism I've heard of was a boy in orange county who shot a few others and then himself because no one would be his friend. Society is to blamed in a case such as that, and in the most recent too I believe.

The whole autism thing is clearly like saying "linked to al qaeda". Everybody wants to crack the code. Sociopaths lack empathy and i informed by my wife ,who reads, that most sociopaths are not actually violent they just lack empathy. My wife should post here she read up all about Columbine and i mean loads. Websites books everything. As a result i learn a lot too. There was an attempt to say Eric Harris was a sociopath but my wife pointed out he did demonstrate empathy in his journal. I digress though.
