I'm between the two stools on this one. I had my reasons for getting a thread closed a while back and I stand by them. I respect that others may have their own reasons for asking for a thread to be closed too. But then I also get where Oi is coming from.

So on balance, I'd be in favour of leaving things as they are. Someone who wants to carry on a discussion can always start a new thread, taint like it's hard to do.

I've never asked for a thread to be locked before. But I can't be doing with any more pointless arguments. I'm too old for it and too bored of it. I'd hoped it would be possible for everyone to behave maturely and avoid trying to start an argument for one day, but apparently this was too much to ask. When it comes to the point where I've stopped discussing the subject and answering the other person's questions, the answers to which (s)he never pays any attention to, but the individual concerned is still talking about me, I just felt the thread wasn't serving any positive purpose.

I only come here to chat to some like-minded people and provide a bit of information now and then. I'm not interested in having an argument. I can have those quite easily in real life, all I need to do is speak to people and offer my opinion on any subject, and you can guarantee people will disagree with me almost immediately.

If the OP has started the threads in the members area and vent room, then they should 100% be allowed to have them locked on request. That is where some of the more personal shit is. I'm on the fence a bit about locking threads in the other forum sections. They should probably only be locked if things have gone seriously fubar, and have reached an impass maybe. The problem with that is, what's to stop some one from trolling the shit out of the thread? That scenario is when more top down moderation is required imo.

Well recently I'll admit my patience wore thin and I started to get a tad arsey with a couple of folks.
That represents a limit to certain parts of my ego which of course warrants attention. Summat I've set myself to addressing as of today...

When does a thread get locked? At what point? It would be a shame that people might feel that the only option they have is to close their own thread due to bullshit...that's the point where a mod could step in and say to the bullshitter "pack it the fuck in". Is that authoratarian? Or just a necessity in the world of the internet forum?
