I was talking to someone from Flipping the Pyramid a few weeks ago, and they told me about this site:

One thing is clear however: humanity, for the first time in its history, will make a fully managed evolutionary transition and eventually become a new species. Moreover, prerequisites for a large-scale expansion into outer space will be created as well.

Not to sound negative but i'm unsure i wan't to live long enough to really experience transhumanism...

What about all the people who came before us, do they live on in our genetics / DNA...

Don't worry, neither of us will have long left by the time this occurs. Look on the bright side.

But what if transhumanism causes us to live forever?

I would be 66 years old in 2045 and i don't want to get to be that age.

I don't know about being good at it, but I've studied it quite a lot. I think quite a few of the people involved in it are well-meaning, and essentially have a misplaced faith that technological progression will be used to benefit the human race as a whole. This is similar to the sort of utopian societies that were predicted in the immediate post-Second World War period. It never works out that way because wealthy interests always want to own the technology and make everyone else work for them. Dying in a ditch next to them due to malnutrition / dehydration / polio or other preventable diseases, etc, already killed in a war / by drone attacks, etc, working seventy hours a week for two dollars a day to grow 'cash crops' that are sold to make repayments against debt that can never be repaid. And so on.

Everyone wants to talk about living of the Grid and becoming less dependent on the western system.

But if i bring up how people live happily in tribes off the land in Africa everyone get's upset.

It makes no sense and i don't understand why....

So going back to the OP, Do people want this 2045 transhumanist future or do they wan't to be natural humans?

The technology isn't the problem and in theory, transhumanism has a lot of potential to change the world for the better. We could incorporate computers into our evolution, why not? It's just the people in control who are going to use it for selfish purposes. That's always the problem.

As WUB said, it's not for the plebs. We might get some funky little gadgets and toys thrown to us to keep us entertained and distracted. They don't give a toss about some poor bastard with dysentry starving in a ditch somewhere in Africa at the moment, and that's unlikely to change in the future.
