That's so fucking untrue as a general statement because every person who kills needs to accept personal responsibility.
I'm not at all, I'm talking about passive violence, people getting on with their daily life, being good productive consumers, not thinking about, actively avoiding thinking about their complicity in their own and others' subjugation, their purchasing of products of alienated and exploited labour, a state can only order murder in foreign lands with a large amount of public support: FACT.
It's not passive violence because the average consumer has no idea what products come from exploited labour...
Your problem should lie with the specific people who exploit that kinda labour....FACT
It is absolutely passive violence for Western consumers to plead complete ignorance to the existence of exploitative wage labour.
Most of them work under similar conditions and if you listen close you'll hear Tory "modernizers" and company owners alike talking about trimming costs to compete with "Capitalism with Asian Values"..
The reality is many people live everyday in a system of capitalist exploitation, alienation and consumption, commerce has replaced their social relations, 24hr television mediates their social relations, and they look down their noses with disdain at the unsuccesful people like the road sweepers, the homeless, potwashers, panhandlers, vagabonds and outlaws, selfishly focused on their own family, or individual status and attainment.
It's absolutely the same attitude your average consumer has towards how their freely available commodities arrive in the shop, as long as they do what does it matter by what method
One would be interested to know why they think commodities from China are so cheap considering they are shipped around the world, and many will tell you it's a bloody disgrace when manufacturing has been attacked in this country that now we import and absurd amount of plastic tat.
You can't blame the unaware consumers and you can't make them aware on a forum with under 20 main posters.
The only thing you can do is go to the sweat shop which you are angry about and fight the manager on site that is there.
The same could be said about blood diamonds in Africa.
You can't complain about the girls who wear wedding rings, you gotta go fight the African Warlords.
totally disagree, people bare some responsibility for their actions or lack thereof.
Most people are happy with the status quo because they eat well and get the chance to give money to charities so they feel better about their white privilege.
parenting is holding responsibility on a personal level.
