I'll give you a little tip that helped me when I couldn't find work, and it has much to do with your op.

Your description of other people who may not share your view of the world as 'sleeping' is not helping you. Period.

I know this from experience and ultimately, the way you are veiwing things right now, may make things that much more difficult for you. Again...been there, got the t-shirt.

When I used to frequent that 'other place', I found myself getting bogged down and depressed with the myriad of aspects of the world around me that I seemingly had no control over and could not change. Whether you realise it or not, by not spending as much time in places like that and consequently, not devoting so much of your attention and energy on those aspects of life, you have taken and important first step in changing your situation. So, well done you!

I applied for everything...and I mean EVERYTHING. Yet still, I never seemed to have much luck. Once I tried adapting or tuning my attitude a little however, things did begin to change. Very slowly and yep, I'm currently stuck in a dead-end minimum wage job, but its a step in the right direction (I am currently working on 'adapting' my attitude to my current job too...)

For a long time though, I felt just like you. Don't fret, it is an entirely natural feeling and you are certainly not alone. I like to think of it as 'evolution' and there are lots of others out there going through just what you are right now.

It also helped to think about what was motivating me. To begin with, it was desperation because I had bills to pay. I tweeked that and it changed to anticipation about being able to pay my bills and have some money left over for luxuries such as food, or new shoes! I tweeked it further and started to get a bit passionate at that point...I was thinking about not being entirely dependent on the entity we have come to refer to as 'the government'.

This really got me going and amazingly, job offers did start to appear. As I said, by no means brilliant, but am still tweeking away so fingers crossed. I was mainly office based before and then came an offer of a job where I work mainly outside. It was a change and an opportunity to learn some new skills, so that's how I'm viewing it right now.

I cannot emphasise though just how nice it is to leap from being dependent on dribs and drabs of money, to actually being in control (to some extent) of your own income.

You've done the hard bit now...think about all you have experienced recently and how that might have helped you identify some things you actually might enjoy doing for work. That's what I did, and it's how I ended up getting paid (albeit not very much) to sit outside in beautiful nature for most of my days. It's a bit of a cliche now, but as others have hinted at, follow your bliss.

Good luck! (not that you need it) ;)

It wasn't an entirely serious suggestion.

There is a sportsman who is famous in England called Shane Warne. I doubt you will have ever heard of him. But I saw him interviewed once, and he said words to the effect of...”the key to life is working out what you’re good at, and then doing everything you can to pursue it. I’m lucky because I’m not good at anything else, but I found the one thing that I’m good at.”

What you should do is work out what you're good at and ideally interested in. And then there will be a voice in your head that will say "you can’t make any money doing that." And you just have to silence that voice, and figure out how you can make money from your skill. And then commit yourself 100% to trying to achieve it, and don’t give yourself the excuse of not trying or not committing yourself fully to fall back on.

The problem with that is its no good being really great at washing dishes. :)
You have to be really good at something that actually pays well and that means you have to make compromises and inevitably end up doing something you might not enjoy or excel at.

I also considered prostitution, but - don't tell anyone - I'm not terribly well endowed and frequently have trouble giving it away, let alone selling it.

I have though about it now and I'm going to buy cheap stuff and sell higher. I have found some fashion shops that sell cheap and I know that I could make money out of this as well as it wouldn't take up to much of my time. Thanks everyone for your kind responses :)

One of my mates was recently offered £120 per hour to work in a knocking shop in Preston - no actual sex involved (supposedly). They just have a big demand from wealthy businessmen, apparently, for women to kick them around and degrade them a bit.

(Not recommending that as an option, Annajn - it was just in response to Abs' post really).

Innit!

You'd think the women round this neck of the woods would automatically be providing that kind of service free of charge though. :conf:

There is also getting paid to go to dinner dates with rich buisness men and it's no sex involved.
