And I'll open up a separate thread in a bit to nominate and have volunteers for the mod team... but before doing that, we should think about how many we want (4, 6, 8) and are they gonna be working shifts or just whenever they happen to be on and hope we have at least one on at all times (that will end up being up to them). If we set a specific # of mods for the time being (unless this place explodes with members or there is a need to replace one), how are we going to narrow it down to who? Whoever gets nominated the most or volunteers, set up a poll with them all and narrow it down after a week to that set number based on who gets the most votes, etc...?

And no, I am not gonna drag this thread out for weeks... others can if they want, but I think a situation needs to be handled in a timely fashion and decisions should be made without beating around the bush and chasing each other around for a month. So make up your minds

I expect it to be something of the ilk...if someone like HJ turns up and starts spouting racist crap then one of the mods immediately bans without even putting it to the community initially and then notifies everyone and we then have a discussion about it but I doubt in such a scenario there would be any gripes about it.

If its someone like SS who acts a bit dodgy and weird but nothing drastic then it gets put to the vote.

I'd trust sketti to be a mod without a second thought tbh.

In other words I wouldn't want to see much of a change in the rules if anything at all. I must stress I wouldn't want to see kneejerk reactions or any panicking going on about it, take your time.

Neither do I relax, unless I am otherwise asleep or passed out... I just made the mod thread in relation to that and told people to come read what you had to say. The thread at least gives a head start to all this rig-a-ma-row even if it doesn't get settled even a month from now... haven't posted/submitted it yet because of what you just said lol

I realise we were operating on the basis of a clean slate, and I'm happy to go along with that if it's the way it's going to be, but I don't see any abiding reason to tolerate people who we know are not consistent and in tune with the ethos of the site. Well, I'm all for that providing most people want it.
It'd take the usual dragged out lengthy discussion and vote.
In the meantime I would say just not to be hasty and leave things as they are.
The main thing I want to promise is not to make any changes and just keep the site paid for and running while we take our time over it and stick by what we all agreed to initially for the time being.

Personally my own POV is that its best to keep things as they are primarily because we haven't really seen much of the lunatic fringe here anyway and even if we did, a mod could deal with it quickly enough regardless.
They get an initial quick temp ban while the community decides whether to make it perm etc.

The tricky stuff comes when people are not that obviously bad if you get my drift. Sometimes just an apology and carrying on would do and indeed 'should' do.

Dubs brought up bannings in the mod thread... which I think is relevant to WUB's post, about an 11th rule and knowing someone causes trouble and stirs the pot.

I think if we combine the two, and not out and out reject members we know have been known to stir shit up and cause problems, but give them a limited access sort of thing (like a trial run for a month, and do this for all new members regardless of if they are known trouble makers) it may limit the stirring of the pot. Also on bannings, if the community as it stands now can come to an agreement that it does not have to be voted on (community approval is not needed to ban someone)...but the mods/zonekeppers can go ahead and ban if they reach an agreement on it based on what someone has done since they took office, after having a warning because of such and such behavior it should be accepted and final. Stages of punishment/warnings handed out, get a warning = on warning, continue to break rules, booted out if the team in charge decides to do that without approval needed from the community.

I actually doubt such people would ever come here in the first place...let alone actually use the same forum name
