This is a Call to Action for a Non-Hierarchical Occupation of Monsanto Everywhere

Whether you like it or not, chances are Monsanto contaminated the food you ate today with chemicals and GMOs. Monsanto controls much of the world's food supply at the expense of food democracy worldwide. This site is dedicated to empowering citizens of the world to take action against Monsanto during the week of September 17th, 2012.

At least 60 Protests to Target Makers of Genetically Engineered Foods on Anniversary of Occupy Movement

WORLDWIDE – An expanding network of concerned individuals known as Occupy Monsanto has emerged over the past 8 months staging numerous protests at companies connected to the global trade of genetically engineered foods, also known as GMOs. The network announced today that on September 17, 2012 protests will begin for an entire week in St. Louis, home of the Monsanto Corporation, and across the US including California where voters will decide if they will label GMOs this election and worldwide in Argentina, Canada, Germany, India, Philippines, and other countries where concern over GMO impact on the environment and human health is growing.

The protests will vary in size and nature but are unified in pushing back GMO food into the lab from which it came. An interactive map with times, dates and locations of the 60+ protests can be found at occupy-monsanto.com/genetic-crimes-unit/ .

Occupy Monsanto means to confront the industrial agriculture system head-on. Some protests could result in widespread arrests of people who choose to engage in non-violent civil disobedience. Despite the peaceful nature of these planned protests, organizers are concerned about surveillance of Occupy-Monsanto.com by the US Department of Homeland Security and law enforcement agencies worldwide. Nevertheless Occupy Monsanto protests will feature costumes made of bio-hazmat protective gear that can also protect against pepper spray from police who have routinely attacked occupy protests in the past year.

“There is something wrong when a chemical manufacturer, the same company who made Agent Orange, controls the US food supply,” says Jaye Crawford, a member of the Genetic Crimes Unit in Atlanta, Georgia that has planned a week of events. Info: occupy-monsanto.com/atlanta-gcu-schedule-of-events/ .

“Wall Street and the American political elite have underestimated and even ignored our potential to effect rational policy change on GMOs which would include labeling for GMOs and restrictions on GMO cultivation,” says Gene Etic an anti-GMO campaigner based in Washington, DC. “If Occupy Monsanto’s anti-GMO actions are successful, after September 17 the media and increasingly more voters will ask tough questions about these experimental GMO crops especially within the context of the Presidential election, as that office holds the power to determine American food policy,” says Etic.

“People are stirred by the evidence that GMO foods compromise human health,” says Rica Madrid, a member of the Genetic Crime Unit of Occupy Monsanto. “Politicians and their sponsoring corporations ignore public outcry over GMOs to protect huge profits over health. Since GMOs’ introduction to the food supply in the mid 1990’s, food allergies have expanded according to Center for Disease Control data,” says Madrid.

“By purchasing influence via massive campaign donations, Monsanto ensures the essential duties of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are neglected. One example of this corporate coup is President Obama’s appointment of Michael Taylor, former Monsanto Vice-President and legal council for the chemical company, to head the FDA’s food safety efforts despite his obvious conflict of interest,” says Ariel Vegosen, a member of the Genetic Crimes Unit. She adds, “Monsanto is the biggest maker of genetically engineered crops so it must be stopped before it is too late to shift to healthy organic agriculture practices as a result of widespread genetic contamination by GMOs. ‘Coexistence’ as defined by the USDA of Organic and GMO crops is a myth.”

“At the US State Department it’s apparent Monsanto has duped leaders in Africa to ask the US for foreign aid in the form of GMO technology and equipment,” says Monsanto shareholder Adam Eidinger who last year walked from New York to the White House in Washington, DC with hundreds of other food activists to demand labeling of GMO foods. “The generous use of US tax dollars, endorsed by the likes of rock-star Bono and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a former legal council for Monsanto, is actually another taxpayer funded subsidy for Monsanto’s pesticide and herbicide hungry crops.”

Occupy Monsanto will be heard at the offices and facilities linked in the GMO food system. In St. Louis a major anti-GMO conference will take place in the same location as the ‘12th International Symposium on GMO Safety.’ A lead organizer of the conference is Barbara Chicherio who believes, “’Monsanto’s push to control agriculture and what people are eating poses a great threat not only to consumers in the US, but to farmers and communities throughout Latin America, Africa and Asia.” Info on the conference is at gmofreemidwest.org/ .

By electing a neo-nazi far right government that persecutes it's own citizens?

Or just the kicking out Monsanto part?
Subject: (en) Britain, Anarchist Federation Organise! #78 — Hungary:
the far right menaces

Up until 2010 Hungary was ruled by a union of the left in alliance with a liberal party.
At its head was Ferenc Gyurcsany from the Socialist Party (MSZP). It operated a programme
of severe austerity based firmly on free market and neo-liberal principles. There was much
popular anger against the measures of this government and Gyurcsany had to hand in his
resignation after he was forced to admit that he had lied eighteen months before, when he
deliberately withheld information about the actual budget in his 2006 re-election
campaign. — The parties of the right, in alliance with those of the far right, exploited
the situation by offering a fake anti-market programme and advancing its protectionist and
racist and xenophobic recipes. As a result FIDESZ , a nationalist, protectionist, and
conservative party led by Viktor Orban, came to power thanks to its alliance with JOBBIK,
a far right party with virulent racist rhetoric and squads of thugs, and with the KDNP,
the Christian-Democrat party.

This success of the right was even seen in
the capital Budapest where a con–
servative mayor was elected for the
first time.

FIDESZ and its allies immediately
began a savage reactionary pro–
gramme starting with a reform of
the Constitution. The word Republic
was removed from references to the
country, now designated simply as
Hungary, implying a national mono–
culture, the rights of minorities were
suppressed, the right to abortion
and the rights of homosexuals were
questioned, the media now came un–
der stricter control and censorship,
journalists were sacked, the judiciary
came under greater control of the
State and an attack on the legitimacy
of the right-far right alliance’s oppo–
nents began.

Organ also instituted a works scheme
that was obligatory for the unem–
ployed, in particular targeting the
Rom gypsies of the country. These
work schemes have been character–
ised as labour camps by some. He
made a further proposal that these
camps should be guarded by retired
policemen.

As to the promised anti-market
measures, in fact what happened
was that the work laws were abol–
ished, education and the public ser–
vices were decimated. There was a
forced reshuffle at the central bank,
electoral changes were made so that
this new government can still main–
tain control even when support for
it has shrunk. Thus the central bank,
the Constitutional Court and the ju–
diciary are far more firmly under the
control of the prime minister than
before.

All of this is in the context of
a deteriorating economic situation.

As a result anger among the Hun–
garian population is mounting. It is
organising to oppose the measures
of the government. At the present
the main organisation participating
in this mobilisation is the EMD move–
ment– A Million For Democracy– tied
to reformist notions and far from
combative and containing strong
electoralist currents, especially with
the LMP party (Politics Can Be Differ–
ent). A demonstration of 30,000 took
place on 2nd January of this year,
in addition to opposition parties
attracting the Hungarian Solidarity
Movement, based on the politics of
PolLish Solidarnosc. However social
movements are emerging in this
context not tied to any of the parties
and based on grassroots self-organi–
sation, often using social networking
to organise. As yet they are still a
small force and include a movement
among the students , opposing the
reforms of the universities imple–
mented by the régime.

As a result of the worsening eco–
nomic situation and the growing
opposition, the government will turn
to further autocratic measures and
will increasingly emphasise a rabid
nationalist rhetoric, whilst carrying
out an apparent anti-market politics
with a threat to tax the banks and
to nationalise some private pension
funds. All of this with the intention
of securing conditions for a further
loan from the International Mon–
etary Fund.

Whilst illusions about the left par–
ties have been dispelled among large
swathes of the Hungarian masses,
indignation against the authoritarian
right administration is mounting.
This opposition has to move towards
ideas based on self-organisation and
mass mobilisation and action. Events
of an earth shaking nature as with
the Hungarian Revolutions of 1919
and 1956 might yet sweep away
FIDESZ and its jackbooted allies.

I'm sure I'll see some people on Facebook over the next few weeks saying how great Hungary is for "kicking out monsanto"

Hah, the "true finns" party wants to kick EU out from here. I would love to see that happen. But the "true finns" have a little hitler in their closet.

This tyoe of stuff is just the reason why I want to stay away from politics.

In the link posted by WUB there is no information regarding the context in which these concessions are being made, for a start, the Hungarians aren't "Throwing out the IMF", this is the kind of misinformation that will give rise to Nationalist and Right Wing Reactionary popular movements in Europe, right wing, neo Fascist political groups will be painted in the alternative media as the only opposition to the global "jewish communist" conspiracy.

I'm only bringing up this aspect because I know neo-nazi's online who believe the IMF and MONSANTO and everything in between, is run and controlled by Jews.

This article has a totally different perspective to the original post:
www.businessweek.com/news/2012-09-07/hun...onditions-orban-says
“Safety is worth very much to us, that’s why we need an IMF deal,” Orban said in an interview with state-run Kossuth radio today. “I think it’s necessary, it will happen, we will strike a deal -- but not on this basis.”

Also a look around Monsanto Hungary's website with google translator seems to indicate Monsanto is still working within Hungary, with at least 3 or 4 offices and two seed outlets in the country:
www.monsanto.com/whoweare/Pages/hungary.aspx

So really why they dug up a year old story to relate to a nothing story about Hungary and the IMF negotiating terms over Hungary's inevitable bailout package, to paint Hungary as some romantic opponent to globalism strikes me as being -whether consciously or not- ideologically motivated.

I see.

You should know that you're speaking to someone who, having realised at a very young age that politicians are liars, made a point throughout youth & most of adulthood to date, of ignoring them completely.

And for that reason, I truly am blissfully ignorant on many political matters in general. :)

I said most of my adult life, not all of it. I've been reading up on a lot of stuff over the last few years (though there's masses to go through to get up to speed). It's always delightfully helpful to encounter condescending 'experts' like your self though.

Perhaps you can explain in economic terms why this is the case? Why is a 'bailout' inevitable? Am I to understand it that you're pro-IMF? Why don't you tell me about Nestor Kirchner, Argentina and the IMF, and what happened over there, I'd love to hear your account of the matter, sunshine.

The monsanto webpage i linked proves beyond any doubt Monsanto hasn't been "thrown out of hungary", so attacking the source on this occasion proves my point to Hexhammer about Conspiracy Theorists and their reflexive thinking, whether Monsanto is biased does not detract from the fact they list 4 offices and seed outlets within Hungary on their website.

Does my quote from the man in charge of whether Hungary takes the bailout not support the idea the bailout is inevitable,
“Safety is worth very much to us, that’s why we need an IMF deal,”
From what basis do you infer that I am "pro-IMF" or pro-neo-colonialism in general WUB?

Since it appears neither the IMF or Monsanto have been "thrown out of Hungary", the attempts of the author to paint Hungary as some romantic opponent to globalism strikes me as being –whether consciously or not– ideologically motivated, and something akin to what the not a Nazi's do when they post about Fascists like Hitler being great because they fought against the Jewish world conspiracy.

Why are you talking about agent orange it's off topic,"it’s completely transparent smear tactics. Why you’re engaging in this behaviour, I have no idea"...Posting a list of independent, non regulated internet articles from websites carrying the same misinformation, does not change the reality that neither Monsanto or the IMF have been "Kicked out of Hungary".
The meanings that are the most directly practical are the ones that are sacrificed: the flavor, aroma and touch are abolished to the profit of the delusions that permanently lead sight and hearing astray.
