Yep. It is when the prisons start working for profit and the debters prisons start opening then you'll know we have arrived.

I think that recent years have seen the screwing over of a lot of people who trained to be teachers by replacing a proportion of the head-count with teaching assistants, most of whom are paid a pittance. When I looked a few years ago, there were many qualified teachers around this neck of the woods who couldn't find employment. One who I knew did supply teaching as a result, for which she was well paid, but she said she did little actual teaching, and was often used to simply 'contain' unruly kids within a classroom and attempt to prevent them creating sheer mayhem.

Talking of Blockbuster, I watched an episode of Seinfeld the other day, and someone took a video back to a rental store and was charged $2 because they hadn't rewound the tape.
