You lot don't know you were born, when we were nippers the local frying house used to do a stonking cod cheeks and chips, which were delish and in dripping. They used to get the whole gutted fish in those days and nowt was wasted.

Then there was a guy we knew locally as CAT who used to catch any cat and sell them to the local takeaways as rabbit minus head and legs, hardly noticeable he said, they made a fab kitty foo yung.

Then there was a local butcher who used to make a nice rabbit pie during the war years, my farthers uncle was paticulary fond of them. He noticed the quality had dropped towards the end of the war. So he asked the butcher why, he told him he had to suplement the pies with a little horse meat, due to the rabbits hunted out, what recipe uncle asked, the butcher said one rabbit to one horse.

My grandmother used to take us down to our local beck that ran through our land and showed us how to tickle the seas trout and salmon, twice a year we had trout and rabbit pie for weeks, the dog used to pin down the bunnies but not kill until we caught them.

Oddly feather that thought is one reason I quit eating pork sausages first. The idea of eating horse is as gross to me as eating any animal. Personally I would not eat anything that I didn't kill myself first as far as meat goes. So I guess I will only eat meat in self defense.


On a serious note though labeling of food is very high on my personal agenda. I want to avoid horse cow and all other animals not to mention gmo's and things like that.

Nothing wrong with horse meat, provided is labeled as such which it wasn’t and that’s the issue here. If you’re paying for beef you should be getting beef, end of. But I noticed the media is trying to twist the story into how queasy the english are about eating horse (!?)

Last time I checked horse meat was being used in the uk for dog food, so chances are your good old trusty Tesco supermarket is using cheap, not for human consumption meat to increase their profit margins.
