Am I naive to have been shocked, do you think? That lack of reaction to someone in serious trouble surely isn't the norm now is it!?!

Nah you're not naive.
I don't get how people can ignore or distance themselves from a crisis like that either. :conf:

What you should do is write back to them and explain that such a repayment hasn't been budgeted for, and you'd like to split the repayment into installments.

well done gilly, you did good!
you know you put a wallet or something between their teeth when someone has a fit to stop them biting off their tongue, it can be fatal

i just looked this up cos i thought about it. apparently you're not supposed to put anything in their mouth at all. my friend from many years ago has epilepsy but i never saw him have a fit, he told me the wallet thing too incase anything happened.
so now i read all this stuff that it would hurt someone. i dont think so, would it? when they bite down hard, it stops them breaking teeth or biting off their tongue.
maybe im wrong.
its a good thing they got you instead of me gilly.

^ I think I'll get them to send me on a first aid course. His throat was gurgling with liquid / phlegm, & I was worried about him choking / inhaling it but I didn't know what to do about it beyond getting him on his side.

Here's a link for you. :)
www.envico-online.com/health-safety/firs...uk2LQCFdKd4AodTXwAMw

I asked a medical type about putting something into the mouth of someone fitting and was always told not to. I suppose the worry is of them choking but I was also told that a person in the throws of a seizure are a great deal stronger than they normally are and I've heard tales of people biting through objects placed in their mouth. In the case of one guy I met he put his hand through a wooden door whilst having a bad seizure.
I was taught that in the even of a fit I was to get my ex to the floor as quickly as possible (Sid James chuckle), away from anything a flailing limb could catch, cradle her head and talk to her until she came round. Her medication kept the seizures at bay but there were a couple of blackout episodes that were pretty scary. Including one where, on a day off work, I'd walked her to the bus stop and when we got there she hit the deck as if hit by a punch. This being the days before mobile phones I had to pick her up and sprint a couple of hundred yards back to the house so I could phone an ambulance. I don't mind admitting that I was shitting myself whilst running home and the 10 min or so it took for the ambulance to arrive seemed to last hours.

If your bosses don't single you out for special praise and possibly a whiskey flavoured reward I'll be very disappointed.

I was just about to suggest this! Get a day out of the office (paid) and then come back as the office first aider (pay rise)!

:D

@bats; I have to admire your mates scam. "Quick, someone give me their wallet!" :chuckle:

That's impressive Gilly, the man was lucky to have you there. All those other people though, oh dear. I can't even believe that they thought they should be sent home for being distressed. They should all try having a tonic clonic seizure (full blown fit) themselves. That will give them something to feel distressed about!

Are you smoking at the moment?

Yes, I'm always smoking. How did your cessation attempt go? You were doing well last time we spoke.

I dunno - it's probably unwise to stick that in to stop 'em biting their tongues off though!
