Just thought I'd kick off a topic in the new sport sub forum

Hmm, well.. Newcastle to sell one of their best players, check! Limp out of the cup competitions, check! Finish mid-table, on course!
But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma,
a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Finally! A footy thread!

Yup, much of a muchness from the toons this season.

On the whole though, very much enjoyed the shake up that was the first half of the season my my team leading the way over xmas :P

Could be settling down into the status quo , though there isn't much in it at all at the top!

Predictions for the [rest of the] Premier league then Silva? (or anyone)

I said Chelsea at the start of the season, and still sticking with that. Had a feeling that Man C would be let down by their away form, and they've been true to that. Liverpool? Never thought they'd be in with a chance of winning, but they've surprised me this year and have played some genuinely excellent football. Man U? I've never really rated Moyse that much and he's not letting me down either. Arsenal have played some breathtaking football at times, but true to form have buckled slightly after Xmas.

I was saying to oi t'other day, its been fantastic for me this season. The complete demolition of Arsenal was a joy to watch, The style is so different, so much flow and confidence. We've even been doing tiki-taca which I just didn't think was possible.

Gotta admit, Moyes surprised me. I was convinced he was actually a decent manager. He's done some good stuff over the years with substandard players and no money. Unfortunately, he's took some of those players with him

He is a deer in the headlights.

Gives me a good chuckle at Utd though :D

Prediction? Arrrrgrh. Gotta be realistic here and not let hope get in the way

Chelsea (by one or two points only), Liverpool, City, Spurs

I used to go watching United every game at home during most of the Atkinson years & was used to seeing them being pretty ordinary.
It was the brilliance of Fergie that changed it around. He's the greatest ever manger with the world's most purple nose. Just him was worth ten points a season. What's happened at United isn't just down to Moyes although he has made some questionable decisions such as sacking all the backroom staff & fumbled about in the transfer market, as well as some very dodgy & out of tradition Man United tactics like trying to defend in the last few minutes & making bizarre substitutions. Actually, come to think of it...

It's weird seeing them go back to being ordinary though after all that time of absolutely dominating the shit out of domestic football, it was really enjoyable to know that most games were a foregone conclusion and you'd see some really great entertaining football. :P If that's it forever now it was good while it lasted.

Fergie did leave a crap squad, & it shows how good he was to be able to get the best out of them last season.

I didn't think United had a championship winning squad, and I didn't think Moyes was a good appointment. But I thought they'd finish ahead of Everton.

I used to go to Utd then too, I even suffered the last days of Sir Matt, Frank O'farrell, Dave Sexton, The Doc, Wilf McGuiness
. Relegation was a joy, and a favourite terrace chant was "We're gonna win fuck all again this year".

But you know what? It was a lot more fun in those days :)

Yeh winning all the time got a bit boring anyway.
United! United!

After a fairly shaky start United did put together a 12 game unbeaten run & I thought they'd settle into their usual rhythm after that but it's all gone pear shaped & Moyes looks well out of his depth.
I'm still clutching at straws for a top 4 finish.

Top 4? I wouldn't bet on that one mate, I reckon United have no chance of even top 6 the way they are going.

I can't wait for tomorrow night's game, I hope it's not an anti-climax:

Don't worry, there will definitely be no bets made by me on Man United probably for a long time!
I know I'm clutching at straws, but as long as it's possible I'll be keeping on hoping. Otherwise it could drastically affect transfer business in the summer & I'm expecting a load of top new players!

I really hope that this turns out to be true :)

WWE owner Vince McMahon 'sniffing around' Newcastle United with view to incredible takeover bid

World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon has been linked with a shock move to take full ownership of Premier League side Newcastle United in what would be one of the biggest shocks to world football ever seen.

McMahon is reported to be interested in purchasing the club from current owner Mike Ashley, and a bid could materialise in the not too distant future with the Londoner reportedly keen to sell the Magpies. But does that mean we’ll be seeing a Geordie edition of the showcase event Wrestlemania anytime soon? Well, yes. We very well could be.

British website www.winnersports.co.uk have claimed the billionaire has been “sniffing around” the club with a view to making a bid.

They claim a Newcastle insider said: “Vince McMahon has been sniffing around the club and seems keen on pursuing his interest.

“He sees England as an untapped market for his wrestling empire. He has even indicated he could put on wrestling bouts at St James’s Park

“Obviously it is very early days but there is hope the fans may get what they want with Ashley leaving. Buying a club like Newcastle would throw him into the spotlight in England which is just what he is looking to do.”

Could a possible takeover result in the WWE stars making their Toon debut, and vice-versa the St James’ Park regulars entering the squared circle? Highly unlikely, but we’re sure a number of people would pay to see the Ameobi brothers team up with Alan Pardew to take on the Shield, not to mention names such as John Cena, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan strutting their stuff in the famous Black and White strip.
