 don't know

by which I mean that I am undecided or its a grey area in my book

I have done the lot at some point

1) swearing/profanity
2) OP posting just vids/links/articles with no comment
3) VERY long copy/pastes
4) string of one line responses
5) copy and pasting full articles instead of salient passage and a link
6) "fixing" posts
thank you St Jude for favours granted

That ain't a half bad idea...for me at least.
All this to'ing and fro'ing is giving me a right royal headache.
Yesterday, it appeared to me a lot of headway was made, all in a positive direction.
I have been up since 5am, having gone to bed after midnight, and whilst I was at work, I was mulling over a few more ideas and stuff. I came back on here only to find that there are no new peeps putting their 2 cents in, and the same things seem to be discussed around and around until I for one am disappearing up my own arsehole! :emb:

I really, really don't want to vent about what has happened here....ie at the admin team, because when I vent, I leave/quit.
I STILL believe in the original ethos and objectives set out, but within all of that there has to be give and take, not concensus, you win some, you lose some,.....that is community......in one word RESPECT. Sometimes the answer is clear cut, othertimes it is not. I am hesitant to suggest that in the good old fashioned debating way...we have a proposer for and against with a seconded and third...end of debate...the rest of us vote on arguments presented.

I am also mindful, that with the same people posting on the various threads here to do with the predicament we find ourselves in, (myself included), that it is off putting to what is by all accounts the majority of the rest of the members here.

Move this to rant...if there is anybody here who has that switch, because having read it back to myself I have given myself one of these :wtcslap: and told myself to :zip:
:jane: and all due respect to everyone here who are trying to sort this unecessary debacle out (just my view)

I have been trying to read all this stuff and process it all. Tired right now but I think we should start a new forum. Just kidding. I think this forum is still developing but we need something in place then leave it alone for a while. Let the site roll a while.

your right ib. at this stage, just keeping the place functioning is the goal. we need to get a couple of zonekeeper/mods in place for a start. andy has some other important stuff covered short term.

its a chance for the members to discuss the future of the sz for sure but we do need to keep our eyes on the ball.

stars is putting in some sterling effort in regard to the stuff that needs sorting pdq.

I should add btw for those who think we should have a 'free speech forum' that if you want that you can damn well pay for it and you can take the rap for it.
You can also try hosting it in vanuatu under a pseudonym or something lol...

zum a that thar common zense andy :D

i very much doubt anyone here would argue that posts that would put others in legally dodgy places or exhibit bigotry etc should be left alone. i for one wouldnt argue that it should be up to the community to decide on that either.
whoever ends up with the extra buttons, do your worst in that situation and i'll be right there backing you up.

Freedom with responsibility is not always a given, it's not a right either because a lot of people in todays world have no sense of responsibility. And as far as this forum, or any other forum goes really, there has to be some moderation because those with the freedom to say what they will, post what they will, etc... are not the ones normally held responsibly. In this case, it would be DG until everything is officially turned over to Andy, and then he will be the one held responsible for any content on the forum. So there has to be some moderation for anyone who does not enact their freedom, with a sense of responsibility.

I am sure you knew that... and everyone else did too... but, just felt like saying it anyway :chuckle:

yup, its always been part of the sz idea for people to take responsibility for what they post and to be respectful.
on the whole we have done that. there's the odd spat between members and then the odd troll but they have been few and far between incidents.
we do need someone there with the ability to get the eraser out, this is true. hopefully it will happen even less in future.

May I suggest that those who advocate the 'consensus' model lay out their stall outlining the vision, details, advantages and attractiveness in a separate thread, in order for that particular (imo), stumbling block, be resolved once and for all?

I believe that would be a fair way to reduce or alleviate any misunderstanding of what exactly is being proposed.

I can't think of a better time to take the opportunity to clarify that.

Yeah it'll need some intricate details :)

Take your time though, I'm not even going to be getting a handover for a week or two, so chill.

Explain "blinder" to me please, as I am missing you're meaning :chuckle: haven't even made it through the first cup of :coffee: yet, brain not working :umm:

Second, yes, decisions need to be make on what the process is, which items are where in the standing (consensus, voting, mod decision, community decision, etc...). And that is something we need to agree on to keep this place going ahead so we are not stuck on that subject for the rest of time :O

A blinder, a belter, a cracker, a jolly good show!

Anything needing immediate attention probably won't be done by consensus at this point but that doesn't mean we can't then seek to thrash out a consensus approach for 'zonekeeper' selection in the future.

What powers will the mods be granted?

Well I see their reponsibility as being:

Activate/Inactivate accounts
Advice to FAQs
Help ensure that commity guidelines are followed
Housekeeping: moving/merging threads

They need the power to perform these things

What rule book will they be following?

The guidelines that we all agree to try to self moderate to first.

Hence I suggest a list of activities under the following titles

 More than okay
;) okay
 don't know
:( not okay
 no way

What things can the mods do without permission of the community and an open debate about it?
temporarily ban- pending review
edit/delete posts merge/move threads upon request/permission
remove posts of offenders officially put on warning
put members "on warning" (notification/announcement--not exclusion) -pending review
More than okay
1) Encourage more original content (e.g. WUB’s article)
2) Encourage more inter-member support in their goals or problems
3) Encourage more life-enriching content
4) Encourage more up-to-the-minute and insightful news threads that offer more than the MSM
5) Encourage more new members by inviting folks from other forums to pop in by setting up a “just visiting” forum.

Okay
by which i mean, not necessrily desirable to every member but acceptable/tolerable

1) all politcal beliefs
2) all religious beliefs
3) all philosophical beliefs
4) all schools of thought regarding economy
5) challenging the above of another

don’t know
by which I mean that I am undecided or its a grey area in my book
I have done the lot at some point

1) swearing/profanity
2) OP posting just vids/links/articles with no comment
3) VERY long copy/pastes
4) string of one line responses

6) “fixing” posts

Wanted to bring this up again, as it does play a part in continuing with the SZ and members should start thinking about all this, adding the lists MM has already started... to me, the above looks like a good outline to start with, now we need people to expand on it with their own ideas so we can all pool our brain power into one...
:chuckle: no idea if that makes sense or is even in the same topic category as what I quote :umm:
