BIG NEWS: The European Central Bank has announced that it has agreed to continue supplying emergency funding to Cyprus's banks until next Monday.

But if the bailout hasn't been agreed by then, the ECB would step away. It's quite an ultimatum.

Here's the statement:

The Governing Council of the European Central Bank decided to maintain the current level of Emergency Liquidity Assistance (ELA) until Monday, 25 March 2013

Thereafter, Emergency Liquidity Assistance (ELA) could only be considered if an EU/IMF programme is in place that would ensure the solvency of the concerned banks.

That sets Nicosia a clear deadline -- find €6bn by next week, in a way that satisfies the IMF and the European Union, or your banks collapse.

And its a bank hol on Monday.

I don't see the banks ever opening again and everyone in Cyrprus will lose everything by the looks.

Note here that its the ECB who are actually pulling the plug and who have started this, they can do it anytime with any other state.

Thats 6bn of their own money just so they can get the 10 or 11bn loan btw. Figures I've seen state that they need 17bn and thats just to tide them over ofc. Then they'll need another bailout when the ECB decide on it again.

It's possible they could strike some sort of deal with Russia, or even agree a revised 'bailout'. The whole thing's bloody ridiculous.

My feeling on this now.....we've seen this 'edge of the precipis' (lousy spelling) situation, I've lost count how many times since 2008, that, (call me complacent), but the can is going to get another kicking. There is too much at stake whether you are the ECB, Russian, PIGS, or whatever. If you have the megabucks, you ain't gonna let the system collapse. "The bigger you are, the harder you fall". The total world debt is now so humongous, that if you took all the actual world currency that's going around and multiplied it by 6, it still wouldn't cover it!

I'm so pissed with this weather, I stil haven't been able to plant any seeds! So I've decided to take over my kitchen/dinner and start planting indoors today. After I've had my boiled eggs....wish I had chickens! I'm not going OT, I'm just trying to say that regardless of what's going on 'over there', things are shit and about to get shitier over here. But with every turn 'they' are just making it more and more impossible to do anything for ourselves! Whether it's the banks/budget, the weather/chemtrails, fluoride/water, supermarket food/GM, it's all bloody bollocks!

But I ain't giving up. I'll fight to my last breath for my kids and grandchildrens future, and mother earth.
Thank you for letting me vent....but I must go and centre myself, otherwise I shall pass my negs onto dem der seeds.

PS....think I might mull over the idea of moving to Iceland! The weather's not that much different, the banksters are in jail, plenty of free'ish heating, the people are a bit 'italian' in their attitudes, I can put up with a few volcanoes and earthquakes, and I've knitted Icelandic sweaters in the past......hmmm

Ah booger.....I think we all felt there was something else behind all this....well it looks like I've found what slipped under the radar! This wasn't supposed to happen until mid 2014!!!!!!!! :O Rushed this through in light of Cyprus!
By John O'Donnell and Claire Davenport

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - EU lawmakers agreed on Tuesday to allow the ECB to police euro zone banks, but a levy imposed on Cypriot savers shows they will struggle to unify Europe's response to bank problems.

The deal between the European Parliament and member states finalises an accord agreed late last year to give the European Central Bank powers to supervise euro zone banks from mid-2014, a first step to a banking union across the 17-member bloc.

That agreement had initially been applauded as a step towards integration, but a surprise levy on Cypriot bank deposits has shaken hopes that Europe will unite in tackling bank problems rather than let countries struggle alone.

"This is a fundamental step towards a real banking union which must restore confidence in the euro zone's banks and ensure the solidity of the banking sector," said Michel Barnier, the European commissioner in charge of financial regulation.

Irish Finance Minister Michael Noonan, who played a central role in negotiations because Ireland holds the rotating EU presidency, welcomed the deal.

"The single supervisor is the core element of banking union and a vital step in breaking the vicious link between the banks and the sovereigns," he said in a statement.

The deal envisages that banks with assets of 30 billion euros, or larger than one-fifth of their country's economic output, are supervised by the ECB rather than national supervisors.

The next pillar of a banking union should be the creation of a central system and fund to close troubled banks, rather than leaving it to individual countries such as Cyprus or Ireland to have to manage alone.

That's it...game over....EVERYONES bank accounts are now in jeopardy regardless if they are in the euro!...please somebody tell me I'm wrong!

I made my man take some out yesterday too although he wasn't keen. Not alot but just some incase this gets worse. He can put it back if it comes to nothing.

He was asked what it was for too and he told them he was buying a van for cash. They shouldn't be asking though.... its akin to a Dr's receptionist asking what your health issues are over the phone when you make an appointment!

Call me simplistic but what would happen if say, at midnight tonight, all the debt in the world were cancelled, be that individuals or nations, and everyone just carries on with what they have from that point?

3.51pm GMT Laiki Bank "to be split"
Cyprus media are now reporting that Laiki Bank is to close.

Cyprus's state television station, CYBC, says that Laiki will be split into a good bank and a bad bank.

Rumours that Laiki - Cyprus's second largest bank - would be split were circulating this morning, but were being denied by the country's banking regulator.

The decision would appear to mean depositors with less than €100,000 in the bank would be fully protected under the deposit insurance scheme. But the situation is unclear.

Hmm looks like they're trying to do a 'NAMA'.
